180 degree rule is an editing technique that inform the audience where everything is in relation to each other onscreen.
It is used in films but many horror films break the 180 degree rule to express panic and danger the certain character is facing.

Match on action is another editing technique which shows one shot cut straight to another shot showing the same movement. The idea behind match on action editing is to keep the viewers attention averted from the scene but keeping the scene flowing.

Shot reverse shot  is a continuity editing technique which follows the 180 degree rule and is normally used in conversations.
