This website looks at the coming ages of females in horror movies and how their role in horror has become more important in a plot that in previous years.
The opening of 'Scream 1' shows an alone female at her house at night.
The opening sound is a scream and the a telephone call. The women is seen straight away as a victim as the person calling her has the wrong number. The voice seems friendly at first but during the course of the opening sequence he turns psychotic and turns this female into a victim of a typical horror movie.
She is your typical female character featured in a film; blonde hair, blue eyes and wearing fashionable clothing, but also she alone which makes her instantly venerable to horror.
Some film examples of last/final girl characters
Our character- Heather Pearson
Our character breaks the stereotypical last girl in the way that she has brown hair and is going to university instead of the blonde hair and a little ditzy girl. Her room is quite girly and by her being alone in her room shows that she is a vulnerable character to any horror about to take place. When the lights go out as an audience we are put on edge thinking about what could happen to this character when she or us cannot see.
