Arguably most famous sound effect is from the shower scene is psycho. It uses high pitched, non diegetic sounds of violins to create a tense atmosphere for the audience watching.
Wind
This one was used as a background sound and was playing through almost all of the opening sequence - the natural sound of wind created a subtle sound bridge which tied in all of the shots. In some cases (shots) the actual sound that was present while we filmed had to be removed and substituted for the wind.
Real heart beat
This sound effect works best when a point of view shot is used and it lets the audience know how distressed the character feels and lets them know that something is wrong.
An example of this is from the film 'Amelie':
In our film...
We are going to use scary nursery rhymes and silence in our film because at the start of our sequence we have two little girls playing. By adding the nursery rhymes we are using parallel sounds but by adding it in a scary way it adds to the tension and builds up suspense.
